Dean T. Maragos is a principal and founder of the law firm Maragos & Maragos which was established in 1995 with his father the Honorable State Senator and Judge Samuel C. Maragos.
Dean T. Maragos is an attorney and accountant who was born and raised on the Southeast side of Chicago. He attended Bowen High School, DePauw University earning his B.A. in History, Philosophy and Political Science and DePaul University where he took accounting courses necessary to take the Illinois C.P.A. examination. He received his law degree graduating Summa Cum Laude from Northern Illinois University College of Law.
The area of concentration of the law firm is zoning, liquor licensing, matters involving city and state government law and municipal law litigation.
Dean has extensive government and public service experience including being the Assistant Director of Revenue for the City of Chicago, General Counsel to the Greektown Special Service Area Tax Commission #16, and Co-Chairman of the Economic Development Subcommittee of the Chicago Development Advisory Commission for the past 14 years being reappointed to this position by Mayor Richard M. Daley. The Economic Development Subcommittee distributes federal funds to delegate agencies such as local Chambers of Commerce in order to improve the economic condition and create jobs in the neighborhoods of the City of Chicago. Dean worked in the Legal Departments of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and Illinois Supt. of Public Infrastructure.
Dean is a member of the Sierra Club, Lifetime member of Independent Voters of Illinois, and served on the steering committee of Cease Fire and The Jason Foundation.
Dean managed the 1995-1996 rejuvenation of Greektown which has started a renaissance in the Greektown area creating jobs, increasing business growth and creating a balanced residential, retail and commercial area. Dean was the zoning attorney for the 35 story residential building in Greektown named “Arcadia on Adams & Halsted Streets.”
Dean was a member of the Illinois International Port Authority Board, is General Counsel to the Motor Vehicle Review Board, and has been elected and re-elected as the Democratic Committeeman for the New Trier Township which encompasses Kenilworth, Winnetka, Glencoe and Wilmette. Dean is an attorney for St. Constantine & Helen and St. Basil Greek Orthodox Churches and attends Sts. Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Glenview, Illinois.
